Preparing your manuscript for publication--The FASEB Journal

Finalizing your manuscript for publication

Pending appropriate revisions requested by the Editors and/or reviewers, some manuscripts will be acceptable for publication in The FASEB Journal. When uploading the revised version, authors should include in the cover letter an itemized list of all changes made, or a rebuttal, in response to each of the suggestions.

The FASEB Journal's production staff will attempt to use the most recently submitted materials to prepare articles for publication. For manuscripts accepted for publication pending appropriate revisions, authors are strongly encouraged to provide preferred file formats for production at the next stage of review. The preferred format for text files is Microsoft Word, but RTF files are also acceptable. The preferred formats for figure files are TIF, EPS, PowerPoint, or PDF (if made from the original file format). Please see figure specifications for details on image preparation. Do not embed figures in the manuscript file. If the authors do not provide review files in these formats, the manuscript may be returned for correction prior to review.

The authors are required to provide completed copyright and cost approval forms prior to publication. These forms can be obtained at the links below. The completed forms may be faxed to the editorial office at 1-301-634-7809.

Click here for a copyright and publication costs approval form, which must signed by ALL of the authors before it is faxed to the editorial office by the corresponding author. Using more than one copy of the form is acceptable if there are more authors than there are signature spaces. To avoid delays in publication, please fill the form out completely, including the spaces for printed names.

Once a manuscript receives final acceptance from the editors, it is scheduled for the next available issue and prepared for publication. The corresponding author will receive an e-mail message when page proofs are available for review. The month of publication will appear at the bottom of the page proofs. The corresponding author also will receive publication and reprint  forms with the page proofs. Publication costs are described in these materials and are available here. Because the editorial office endeavors to publish pre-print versions of all articles--on average--within 56 days (8 weeks) after acceptance, it is critically important for authors to return all completed publication forms and  proof correctionsto the editorial office within the requested 48-hour timeframe. Exact dates of pre-print publication are not available, however, as pre-print publication times are affected by several factors, including how long it takes for the editorial office to receive proof corrections and signed publication forms as well as the nature and extent of the revisions that are necessary to correct the proofs.

If you have any questions regarding the preparation of your manuscript or the publication of your work, please contact Cody Mooneyhan by phone at 301-634-7104 or by e-mail at cmooneyhan@faseb.org.
