ABSTRACT

Obesity has become the leading metabolic disease in the world and caused serious health problems like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, cancer and respiratory complication. It has been suggested that decreased preadipoctye differention, proliferation and lipogenesis are mechanisms to reduce obesity. In the present study, we explored the effect of Heloniopsis orientalis (H. Orientalis) on the adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 cells. Treatment of differenting adipocyte with 0.1, 0.5 and 1 mg/ml H. orientalis inhibited 3T3-L1 differentiation in a dose-dependent manner. H. Orientalis decreased the intracellular triglyceride accumulation. Moreover, treatment with H. orientalis decreased the expression of adipogenesis related molecules incluing C/EBP{alpha}, SRECP-1, FAS and PPAR{gamma}. These results demonstrate that H. Orientalis effectively inhibited adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and thus, could be an important adjunct in the treatment of obesity.
