Figure 2. Schematic shows pI differences of Cx26 and Cx32, which allowed homomeric and heteromeric channels to be separated by isoform content, pointing to significant post-translational modification of connexin. Several new post-translational modifications of Cx26 and Cx32 were identified, and differences in post-translational processing of the same isoform in liver and HeLa cells were also observed. These modifications may be instrumental in guiding and understanding novel molecular mechanisms of connexin regulation and disease.
