Figure 2. The effect of thiazolidinedione administration on liver regeneration in mice was analyzed. The results showed that these PPAR{gamma}-activating drugs have no effect on early TNF{alpha}-IL6-STAT3 signaling, augment late cytokine signaling, suppress cyclin expression, and inhibit hepatocellular proliferation during liver regeneration, with efficacies that correlate with their relative PPAR{gamma}-activating potencies (i.e. rosiglitazone exhibited the greatest inhibitory effect). These studies provide the first evidence linking regulation of PPAR{gamma} activity and the hepatic regenerative response.
