Figure 2. Proposed model of E1A nucleocytoplasmic transportation. E1A is synthesized in the cytoplasm and transported to nucleus through acetylation-regulated binding to importin-{alpha}3. Conversely, nuclear E1A is relocated to cytoplasm by phosphorylation-regulated nuclear export through CRM1. We hypothesize that E1A will be translocated to the cytoplasm for interaction with cytoplasmic proteins and efficient viral replication.
